Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration (MOMT)
The Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration (MOMT), known locally as Kementerian Ketenagakerjaan, is a vital arm of the Republic of Indonesia’s government. It is responsible for the nation’s labour legislation and worker rights, with Ida Fauziyah as the current minister since October 2019.
Tracing its roots back to 1947, two years post-independence, the MOMT was established by sectioning parts of the Ministry of Social Affairs as directed by Government Regulation 3 signed that year. Having been handed the demanding task of shaping national policies and programmes for the labour sector during the National Revolution, its first minister, S. K. Trimurti reported to Prime Minister Amir Sjarifuddin.
In line with other ministries, the MOMT holds a robust organisation, including an Office of the Deputy Minister, Secretariat General for Manpower, several Directorates-General each focusing on different aspects such as Training and Productivity Development or Industrial Relations Development and Workers’ Social Security, an Inspectorate General, the Employment Planning and Development Centre, and Expert Staff Offices encompassing areas like International Labour Cooperation, Public Policies on Labour, Economic Affairs and Human Resources, and Inter-Institutional Relations.
