60-Day Bridging Visa for Foreign Nationals in Indonesia
Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration (DGI) has introduced a new Bridging Visa. This 60-day visa also known as a Transitional Stay Permit, is a legal way for foreign nationals to remain in the country while they apply for different residency permits.
When to Apply For a Bridging Visa
Once the original permit has expired, foreign nationals must apply for a Bridging Visa. Before introducing this visa, foreigners had to leave the country once their Limited Stay Permit expired. Now, there is no need to leave the country while awaiting approval of a new permit application.
The Bridging Visa is also applicable if foreigners hold a Limited or Permanent Stay Permit and must apply for a new one. Foreigners can now legally remain in the country while awaiting the outcome of their new application.
The Benefits of the Bridging Visa
With the introduction of the Bridging Visa, Indonesia hopes to streamline the transition process between different permits. This will help minimise the inconvenience experienced by foreign nationals when it comes to permit renewals and applications. The better stability and flexibility will hopefully encourage more foreign nationals to remain in the country and contribute their talents.
More details and specifics regarding the Bridging Visa will be released by the DGI later. The specifics will include details about activities permissible under the Bridging Visa. This way, foreigners will be well informed about what they can and cannot do under the new visa.
