West Nusa Tenggara’s Tourism Set to Boom With Rp3.7 Trillion Grant From Indonesian Government
Development to Be Accelerated With Strategic and Sustainable Activities
The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy or Kemenparekraf RI has rolled out strategic plans to boost tourism in Indonesia. The Ministry stated that a key aim is the Rp3.7 trillion in grants that are being earmarked for tourism. The focus of these grants will be developing West Nusa Tenggara’s tourism sector, especially the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (KEK).
KEK Mandalika is on the southern coast of the Republic of Indonesia’s island of Lombok. It boasts of an idyllic coastal resort landscape occupying the Central Lombok Regency of West Nusa Tenggara. Operated by the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation, it was designated as a KEK or special economic zone in October 2017.
SMEs to Benefit from Tourism Boost
Special global events such as the World Superbike and MotoGP are to be organized in Mandalika this year. This will provide an excellent opportunity for tourism operators as well as entrepreneurs looking to start an Indonesian company. Such global events will have what the Ministry terms a ‘multiplier effect’ which will boost tourism and its related activities.
It will enable micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to promote their products ancillary to these events. These include commercial activities such as the sale of handicrafts, souvenirs, woven clothes, rattan products, food, etc.
As part of its strategic plan, the Ministry also stated that there would be tourism grants for specific developments. One such focus will be on the Rinjani-Lombok UNESCO Global Geopark. The Rinjani Geopark is a lush natural landscape that is home to diverse local communities.
The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has stated that it is wholly invested in pivotal strategies. It will be anchoring its development and investment plans on concepts of adaptability and innovation to drive results. The Ministry will also push for the strategic development of tourism anchored in collaboration to create quality tourism that is sustainable.
West Nusa Tenggara Key to Tourism Development Strategy
The Ministry cited the East Lombok tourism development that has created a commendable and innovative ecosystem. The development there has leveraged grassroots economic empowerment, especially for women entrepreneurs, via various stages of commercial development. The result is a powerful and successful integration of creative economy models with nature and culture.
It is hoped that by cultivating, leveraging, and developing West Nusa Tenggara’s tourism sector, Indonesia will emerge as a regional hub. West Nusa Tenggara is undoubtedly poised to be the next big thing in tourism in the national tourism development strategy. Such key objectives will create favorable investment ecosystems and opportunities for commerce.
