Indonesia Offering Investments in SEZs to the UAE
A proposal has been put forth by Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to encourage more investments from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in SEZs.
Investment opportunities are being made available in eight special economic zones (SEZs). Investment opportunities will be focused primarily on the creative economy and tourism sectors. These zones include Central Lombok, Tanjung Kelayang in Belitung, West Nusa Tenggara, North Sulawesi, Likupang in North Minahasa, Tanjung Lesung in Pandeglang, Nongsa in Batam, Lido in Bogor, Morotai in North Maluku, and Singhasari in Malang.
More Possibilities for Investments in SEZs
In addition to those eight areas, five other priority destinations have been encouraged too. These include Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, Borobudur, Likupang, and Toba Lake. The tourism numbers in Indonesia have been on the rise, especially from the UAE. This has been the driving force that has prompted the investments in SEZs proposal. In 2023 alone, UAE tourism in Indonesia amounted to US$3.1 million, an impressive 429% increase from the year before.
Indonesia is also emphasizing ongoing efforts to promote private sector participation, realising the need for the establishment of a robust investment ecosystem. Indonesia is optimistic that investor involvement will only expedite the process and generate several employment opportunities for both locals and internationals.
