Dear Valued Customers,
Welcome to the September Newsletter 2022
Welcome to our September newsletter! It’s been a busy time across our offices around Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. We also have a major announcement coming from our Indonesia office which we are very excited to share.
Singapore Ranks As the Top Shipping Hub for the 9th Consecutive Year
For the 9th straight year, Singapore is the top shipping hub on the Baltic International Shipping Centre Development (ISCD) index. Out of the 43 maritime locations that were assessed by the index, Singapore cinched the number nine spot. A testament to the nation’s commitment to achieving success in its maritime industry.
Among the factors that contributed to its success were facilities at the port, business environment, cargo throughput, and maritime facilities. Other factors that made Singapore a clear winner were its comprehensive range of available maritime services and robust infrastructure at the port. Singapore will continue its commitment to innovate and build resilience as it creates synergy across the different sectors within its maritime industry.
Malaysia’s New Premium Visa Programme Aimed at Attracting Rich Investors
Good news for those wanting to invest and live in Malaysia. Malaysia’s Government will be rolling out a new premium visa programme. This premium visa is specifically targeted at rich investors, enticing and encouraging them to come and settle down in Malaysia.
The new premium visa programme is similar to that of the Golden Visa initiatives that are available in Thailand, Singapore, and Portugal. Affluent individuals from countries with diplomatic ties to Malaysia will be able to lodge an application.
Applications will commence on 1 October this year, and those earning an offshore income of minimum of RM480,000 are encouraged to apply. 3E Accounting will be able to help you through the entire visa process.
50,000 Local Hong Kong Companies Newly Registered in 2022
Hong Kong has had a promising year, with 50,087 companies newly incorporated in the first half of 2022 alone. This was just local companies too. Overall, this brings the total number of local companies registered to 1,386,592.
On the non-local companies side, the total number of newly registered businesses was 415. All businesses in Hong Kong are registered under the Hong Kong Companies Ordinance. For the month of June, the total number of non-local companies registered was 14,481.
The large number of business applications are thanks largely to the changes made by Hong Kong. To meet demand and expectations, the Registry started accepting electronic submissions for applications.
